ABOUT TAG

The first meeting of the Theoretical Archaeology Group (TAG) was organized by Colin Renfrew and Andrew Fleming in 1979 in Sheffield, UK. Since then, researchers annually meet in TAG conferences, each held at a different city of the UK, where new theoretical and methodological perspectives in archaeology are debated. Since 2000, the Scandinavian TAG is held under the name of Nordic-TAG. Since 2008, researchers in the USA began organizing TAG-USA. Greece is another country where TAG meetings are organized.

The first meeting of the Theoretical Archaeology Group in Turkey was held in 2013 at Ege University in Izmir. The first meeting focused on the practice and politics of archaeology in Turkey and its various problems. The second meeting of TAG-Turkey was held in 2015 at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul. The meeting aimed debating a current theoretical topic in archaeology and focused on entanglement theory with the overarching theme of “Archaeological Things”.

After five years, at the third meeting of TAG-Turkey, we wish to discuss personal and social identities in the distant past and today through various archaeological approaches and methodologies.
